00BEFORE YOU START

Your cleaning fee is a price. Check it.

Cleaning costs keep climbing, platform fees can stack on top, and Airbnb's new rules add more pressure. For reservations booked on or after November 20, 2026, hosts generally can't ask guests to strip beds, wash and put away dishes, or take trash offsite. That work now has to be covered in your turnover.

You don't have to fire anyone to find out where you stand. You just need a few other cleaners to price your property.

Rule details as reported by Fortune, October 28, 2026.

01RE-EVALUATE

Find out what the market would charge

Are you getting the best price, or is your cleaner charging above market? The quickest way to know is to post your property on Same Day Turn and let local cleaners bid. Then compare those bids with what you pay today.

Want a starting point first? Our free cleaning estimator prices the actual work in your property. As a rough guide, it lists solo cleaners at $25–$35 an hour and cleaning companies at $50–$70 an hour.

02INTERVIEW

Ask these 7 questions before you hire

A lower bid only saves you money if the cleans hold up. When someone with good experience comes in under your current rate, interview them.

  1. 1How long have you been cleaning vacation rentals?
  2. 2How many vacation rentals are you cleaning right now?
  3. 3Can you handle same-day turns, even on the weekend?
  4. 4Do you have reliable transportation 7 days a week?
  5. 5Do you have your own supplies?
  6. 6Will you do the cleaning yourself, or outsource it to your team or another cleaner?
  7. 7Do you have host references you can share?

03TEST

Start with a test clean and an inspection

Don't hand over your calendar after one good phone call. Book a test clean, then arrange an inspection right after it so you can see whether everything meets your standards before a guest does.

04STANDARDIZE

Make your listing photos the standard

Add property-specific items to your checklist so the home is staged exactly the way it looks on Airbnb or VRBO. A new cleaner can't match what they haven't been shown. With Airbnb's new rules, also make sure it covers stripping beds, washing and putting away dishes, and removing trash.

05PROTECT

Try more than one cleaner, and keep a backup on call

Don't be afraid to test several cleaners until you find the right fit. Then keep a backup ready, even when your main cleaner is great. One missed turn can cost you far more than a cleaning fee.
